Step 2 – Install Container Manager (Docker)

1. Open Package Center on your DSM desktop.
2. Search for Docker or Container Manager.

Step 3 – Download the Mail Backup X docker image

1. Inside Container Manager, go to the Registry tab.
2. Type mailbackupx in the search bar.

3. Select the official image (for example, inventpure/mailbackupx) and choose Download.

4. When asked for a tag, pick latest to get the most up-to-date version.

Wait until the image finishes downloading.

Step 4 – Create a Storage Folder

Open File Station and create a new folder on your NAS, such as MailBackupData.

This will hold all your backed up emails and configuration data on Synology NAS device.

Step 5 – Create and Configure the Container

1. In Container Manager, go to ‘Image’, select the Mail Backup X image and click Launch.
2. Under General Settings, name the container (for example, mailbackupx-instance) and enable Auto-restart. Go to the next screen.

3. In Network Settings, keep the default option by checking the “Use the same network as Docker Host” box.

4. Under Port Settings, map Local Port 18080 to Container Port 18080 (TCP).
5. In Volume Settings, add the MailBackupData folder you created and mount it to /data inside the container.

6. Review your settings and click Done to start the container.

Step 6 – Initial Setup via Mail Backup X Web Interface

1. In Container Manager, confirm that the new container shows a Running status.

2. Open a browser and go to http://your-nas-ip:18080.
3. Log in with the default credentials (User ID: admin Password: admin). And since this is your first time, you also need to change the password when prompted.

4. On the License screen, either Activate Trial or enter your License Key to unlock the full version.

Once activate, you will be able to access the tool’s dashboard. You can click on “Go to Dashboard” for that.

Adding Email Accounts and Starting Backups

Step 7 – Install the OAuth Helper (for Gmail, Outlook.com, Office 365)

Open your browser’s extension store, search for Mail Backup X OAuth Helper, and install it.This plugin handles secure sign-in for cloud-based email services.

1. In the Mail Backup X interface, click Setup New Profile under Backups.
